The governance structure of the AUMA and AMSC is led by a Board of Directors elected by member municipalities during each annual convention, and is comprised of representatives from cities, towns, villages and summer villages, and specialized municipalities in Alberta. A separate AMSC Board of Directors is formed from members of the AUMA Board.
The AMSC Board sets the direction and priorities and establishes terms of references for a number of committees, which report to the Board mainly through the annual business plan and budget. Advisory groups with participating members have been formed with members directly involved in the administration of these services, providing expert insight into these programs.

Monthly meetings are held provide an update and accountability of the service delivery and performance for covered employees and their dependents for participating municipalities across Alberta.
