City of Grande Prairie
Bob MacNeill – Purchasing Administrator
The City of Grande Prairie has been both a gas and power participant of AMSC’s Energy Aggregation Program since 2004 and has enjoyed budget certainty, accurate and timely billing and excellent customer care by Kim and Luisa. Ray Marchand and Laurie Rennich truly are “committed to communities” and have been extremely responsive as our key contacts at Nexen and supportive of the AUMA membership’s initiatives. It is with pleasure I write this letter of reference on behalf of AMSC’s Energy Aggregation Program.
As a member of the Energy Customer Advisory Group for the new 2009+ Energy Aggregation program which is now being launched, I am delighted with the changes the AMSC has made to the new program in response to the AUMA members’ feedback and suggestions. The City of Grande Prairie will benefit from the tiered fee structure that reflects economies of scale in addition to the wholesale procurement process (eliminating the retail commodity margin) which is market responsive, competitive and transparent. Growth and change are challenges for all Alberta municipalities; however the new Program’s flexible product offerings and opportunity for commodity balancing greatly assist in this regard. The Energy Customer Advisory Group has appointed a sub-committee of members to scope the Energy Management Information System for which I am looking forward to contributing to its design. It is our goal to offer an EMIS that has specialized applications for the unique reporting needs of Alberta municipalities and is a great value added benefit to program participants.
Grande Prairie is very pleased to renew our partnership with the AMSC and Nexen and looks forward to participating in the 2009+ Energy Aggregation Program. Please feel welcome to contact me at 780-538-0351 should you require information.
City of Camrose
Bill McAllistair – Operations Manager
The City of Camrose decided to renew our contractual relationship with AMSC and Nexen for both power and natural gas energy needs because we believe in the principal of aggregation for commodity price and service. A significant aggregate load with proven resources in the background to help procure energy is the key sign up factor. AMSC recognizes each municipality’s needs differ. They have adjusted the energy aggregation program to better accommodate these differing needs, making this program even more attractive. We recognize the energy market is changing and maturing. A flexible approach meets our objective of stable pricing at reasonable cost. Understanding what and how much we purchased / consume energy, with the ability to sell back or procure additional energy at any time is another major improvement. Removing the constraint of allowing additional procurement only at set intervals will allow us to better manage our growth.
Market unpredictability and the procurement process make us all nervous, Re-signing with Nexen diminishes this anxiety. I expect our renewal will be seamless since our load profile and sites are already known. In our experience Nexen Customer Care is a professional team with a proven track record handling all our business in a timely fashion. Our council and community of almost 16,500 have entrusted the AUMA to secure our energy needs through the Nexen agreement.
City of Lethbridge
Garth Sherwin – Director of Corporate Services / City Treasurer
As the Director of Corporate Services and Treasurer for the City of Lethbridge, it is my pleasure to write a letter of reference for the AMSC’s Energy Aggregation Program and Nexen Marketing.
The City of Lethbridge has been a (gas) participant of AMSC’s Energy Aggregation Program since 2004 and has benefited from budget certainty, accurate and timely billing and enjoyed superb customer care offered by Nexen Marketing. Municipal Markets Account Manager Laurie Rennich has impressed me with her knowledge, dedication and expertise in the municipal market sector and offers unique skills to the AUMA membership.
At the request of AMSC’s CEO John McGowan, I agreed to participate as a member of the Energy Customer Advisory Group to scope and direct the new 2009+ Energy Aggregation program now being launched. I am extremely pleased with how the AMSC has responded to the desires of the AUMA members’ requests for improvements, the tiered fee structure, enhanced products and flexibility, increased program efficiencies …all for a lower cost to participants. The EMIS will be developed with direct guidance from the Energy Customer Advisory Group and has great potential to make the accounting and budgeting process more efficient, combined with opportunities for demand side management measures, should equal savings for municipalities.
The AMSC’s 2009+ Energy Aggregation program has 100% hit the target and should be of great benefit to the AUMA membership as well as the Community Related Organizations that can also participate and enjoy the program’s enhanced services and offerings.
