While not an everyday practice for many municipalities in Alberta, there are times when it is necessary for individuals connected with municipalities to travel a great distance in a short period of time. On these occasions, it is becoming more common for municipalities to arrange for the private charter of an aircraft and pilot/crew.

When such charters are arranged, the flights made are conducted for and on behalf of the municipality. The contracted arrangement creates a potential liability scenario in the name of the municipality (even for pilot/crew error or faulty aircraft and equipment) which needs to be addressed.
