Job Description

We invite you to consider our opportunity for an Assistant Deputy Chief – Training & Recruitment.  

Reporting to the Deputy Chief – Training & Recruitment, your key responsibilities will include:         

  • Assist with the leadership and management of resources (people, dollars, equipment & materials) to deliver programs and services.         
  • Lead in the development and implementation of related departmental standard operating guidelines, policies and procedures.         
  • Lead in the development or continued improvement of processes for the administration and delivery of training branch services and initiatives.        
  • Lead in promotion and administration of Safety and compliance with OH&S Standards during training, operations and maintenance of records.         
  • Initiate and make recommendations for the awarding of contracts.         
  • Recommend alternative methods of providing best levels of service.        
  • Instruct courses and programs as required to meet Training Branch goals and objectives.         
  • Responsible for the outcomes of human resource management and the effective leadership of employees.         
  • Develop and foster a positive work environment and promote a learning environment focusing on change and innovation.       
  • Lead in development and delivery of recruitment and retention strategies for urban and rural departments.        
  • Lead or direct the planning of all training within the urban and rural departments’.         
  • Coordinate development of training schedules, calendars and the enrolment process for training.         
  • Direct and Coordinate training delivery within the urban and rural fire departments in the areas of: Task and Drill Certified Fire Training Medical Training Specialty Training Officer Development Safety        
  • Participate in development and administration of Department Strategic Plans, Branch Business Plans and Individual work plans for training branch staff. 
  • Assist with the development and management of branch operational and capital budgets. 
  • Assist with the completion of monthly variances and projection reports.  

You will possess the following:  NFPA 1001, NFPA 1021 Level II, 1041 Level II.   Eight (8) years experience including a minimum of two (2) years in a supervisory capacity. Preferred:  NFPA 1041 Level II, EMT-A or EMT-P, Business Administration degree/certificate or equivalent post secondary education in Leadership. Equivalent combination of education or experience may be considered.   Some of the competencies required are: Demonstrated Leadership, interpersonal, labour relations, communication and management skills. Proven ability to work under own initiative and make sound decisions. Able to work under stressful situations.  

Salary  94,498 (Starting Range) - 120,722
