The Alberta Municipal Place retrofit came about as a result of the AUMA staff relocating to a new office space in 2010.
From the outset, the goal was to ensure the redesign of the building was done with energy efficiency as its core guiding principle. In addition to improving energy efficiency, reducing operational costs, and decreasing the building’s environmental footprint, the AUMA envisioned AMP as an example of sustainable building in the community.
After a suitable building in south east Edmonton was selected, a thorough energy audit of the existing structure was conducted to identify key areas where cost effective energy efficiency measures could be undertaken.
In its completion, the AMP incorporates energy efficiency technologies in the areas of building lighting, both air and water heating and cooling, insulation, window treatments and ventilation.
