Grande Prairie is a dynamic urban centre located on the southern edge of the Peace River Region. Strategically situated it serves residents from Northwestern Alberta and Northeastern British Columbia. Grande Prairie's strategic location has contributed to its rapid growth over the years, and the city has developed into one of the fastest growing and youngest communities in Canada. As of 2018, the city has a population of 69,088, serving a broader trading area of over 280,000.

Main Responsibilities

The Community Knowledge Campus boasts one of Grande Prairie's pride and joy, the world-class 450,000 square foot Eastlink Centre. Built in 2011, this community hub plays host to a variety of recreation tournaments and features:

  • diverse aquatic activities and lesson programming, water slides and lane swimming
  • an indoor track for year round access
  • wellness programming including fitness classes, personal training and an impressive gym
  • a double court fieldhouse plus indoor courts for racquetball or squash
  • member benefit childcare programs and activities

Reporting to the Director, Community Services, the General Manager is responsible for bringing "best-in-class" operating practices, programming and management to the Campus. All while leading 200 enthusiastic staff focused on providing an outstanding guest experience.


As the successful candidate, you will have the following qualifications:

5-10 years of progressive leadership experience at multiplex sporting, recreation or event facilities. As a collaborative leader, you will foster relationships with multiple internal and external stakeholders to achieve the Campus goals, namely to:

  • increase and sustain membership and usage;
  • attract sports, wellness and recreation activities and events; and
  • deliver exceptional programming to enhance an active culture within the community.

An undergraduate degree in Recreation Management, Sports Administration or a related discipline. A combination of other education, professional credentials and tangible experience to meet the requirements of the position may be considered.

Proven experience in a management role within a similar environment, with a focus on fiscal responsibility and accountability.

An understanding of and support for initiatives aimed at enhancing the health, wellness and enjoyment of the community.
