The City of Fort Saskatchewan is seeking a detailed oriented, positive and customer service focused professional to join our People Services Team. Reporting to the Employee Services Advisor, the Payroll & Benefits Coordinator is responsible for the daily operations, bi-weekly processing, and annual responsibilities of the City’s payroll and benefits area. This position also provides the same service for the Fort Saskatchewan Public Library.
The Payroll & Benefits Coordinator is responsible for the full payroll cycle. This consists of tasks such as bi-weekly processing of payroll for up to 450 employees; set-up of all personal employee information in the payroll system ; tracking of employee pension and benefit start dates; reporting and processing of all tax remittances, T4 and ROE’s and the completion of employment verifications requested by employees and outside organizations. This position also works in conjunction with Finance to ensure all payroll general ledger reconciliations are completed as directed by the City’s financial procedures.
Responsibilities in the area of benefits include processing of new employee benefit applications with external providers; maintain regular contact with outside benefit service providers and negotiate changes or renewals; monitor trends for “total rewards” and ensure all benefits provided are still relevant; while ensuring all City policies and procedures are reviewed and updated. In addition, this position is responsible for review, maintenance, and suggestions for change to all employee benefits as needed.
This position requires a post-secondary two (2) year Diploma in Accounting, Business Administration or related discipline, as well as, certification as a Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) and Certified Employee Benefit Specialist (CEBS). A minimum of three (3) years of experience working in Payroll and Benefits is required. Experience in a Municipal and/or Human Resources environment is desired. Good working knowledge of MS Great Plains/Diamond Software and HRISMyWay is essential. The Payroll and Benefits Coordinator provides advice and support as required to all City staff in a friendly and professional manner, and must always be up to date with respect to legislative changes effecting payroll. The ability to communicate in a positive, confident and respectful manner (written and oral) to internal and external stakeholders is essential. Excellent analytical and organizational skills are required.
The City of Fort Saskatchewan offers a salary range of $76,908 to $90,480 per annum.
