Are you ready to take the Smart Cities challenge?

December 5, 2017

April 24, 2018, is the deadline for you to submit your application for the Smart Cities Challenge.

Announced by Minister Infrastructure and Communities on November 23, 2017, the competition is open to all communities – not just cities - to show how they are working to improve the lives of their residents through innovation, data, and connected technology.

So what do you get if you win?

  • One prize of up to $50 million open to all communities, regardless of population;
  • Two prizes of up to $10 million open to all communities with populations under 500,000 people; and
  • One prize of up to $5 million open to all communities with populations under 30,000 people.

AUMA has been proud to work with the Alberta Smart City Alliance, which is dedicated to the advancement of innovations and technological solutions to many of the complex issues facing Alberta communities. The Alliance brings together municipalities, post-secondary and research institutions, and leading technology companies, all working together to achieve exciting lifestyle benefits for residents, robust economic opportunities, and more efficient governance within a safe, healthy, and sustainable environment.

We know there are many excellent ideas and AUMA expects Alberta municipalities to dominate all three rounds of the Smart Cities Challenge.  If you’re interested in learning more, be sure to visit the Impact Canada Challenge Platform.
