During the FCM annual conference, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau unveiled the prize structure for the Smart Cities Challenge, which will be officially launched this fall:
· one large prize of $50 million;
· two prizes of $10 million for mid-sized communities;
· one prize of $5 million for a small community; and
· one prize of $5 million available for an Indigenous community.
Further details will follow. In the interim, municipalities are encouraged to use the summer to start crafting some great ideas that showcase their creativity and innovation for what looks to be a competitive run for the prize money.
