Update from the Legislature – April 24, 2024

The Legislature is in session until Thursday, April 25. It will then break for the final planned constituency break of the spring session. Bill 19, the Utilities Affordability Statutes Amendment Act, 2024 was introduced on Monday, April 22. The legislation will restrict how municipalities can calculate utility fees. After initial review, it appears the legislation will have limited impact on the current practices of most municipalities. Additional legislation regarding municipal governance is expected to be introduced and passed before the Legislature rises and summer recess begins.
